Edmonds-Woodway girls soccer wins to set up big showdown

EDMONDS — The Edmonds-Woodway girls soccer team took another step toward a possible Wesco 4A South title, beating Kamiak 2-1 and setting up a big showdown against Jackson on Monday night.

Edmonds-Woodway and Jackson are tied atop the 4A South standings with two games to play. The two teams tied in their first meeting back on Sept. 19.

“I like how we’re playing,” said Edmonds-Woodway head coach Bill LeCompte. “We’re finally doing something we weren’t doing early: Setting the tone of the game.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge Monday night against Jackson to see if we’ve done some things and learned some things to grow.”

Edmonds-Woodway controlled possession early and finally broke through midway through the first half.

“We had a fair amount of opportunites between corners,” LeCompte said. “We were able to finally find one midway through it.”

Rylee Peterson was the one to do it, scoring unasssisted in the 26th minute. Bailey Lux-Lowry scored the equalizer for Kamiak in the 53rd minute, putting a free kick up and over the wall and into the goal.

The game-winner came in the 60th minute when Hannah Rupple made a run and was able to get around defenders, hit it to the far post and beat the goalkeeper.
