Another marching band competition took place in Everett recently and not one article about it was published in the local newspaper. Kudos to the Mukilteo Beacon staff for the article about the Music in Motion marching band competition hosted by Kamiak High School several weeks ago. News about local sports events are plenty, though news about local schools’ music events are rarely published in the local newspaper. What a sad thing since music in schools is just as important as sports.
The 26th Annual Puget Sound Festival of Bands, a marching band competition, will take place today (Oct. 26) at the Everett Memorial Stadium. I have seen a lot of these band competitions and I have always enjoyed the “retreat” part of the event. When I first saw a marching band “retreat,” I was in “total awe.” The parade of bands before the full “retreat” reminds me of a meeting together of all nations. Truly awesome and very colorful with all the students in their uniforms! To all the marching band instructors, students, parents and supporters, thanks for all that you give to the community! You all work hard! Good luck to all involved!
