I recently moved to unincorporated Snohomish County east of Snohomish. Although it is somewhat rural, there are numerous residences and developments. I was concerned due to the amount of gunfire I was hearing on regular basis, especially on the weekends. I learned that in the area where I reside an individual may shoot on their property without any apparent restrictions. Instead of enjoying a peaceful day on your property there is a constant sound of gunfire emanating from all points of the compass. I’m all for the 2nd Amendment, however individuals are shooting on their property near developments and no one is required to determine if safety precautions are being considered. There are a number of gun ranges in Snohomish County that provide a safe and supervised environment to shoot. It is just a matter of time before an errant round enters an adjacent property and someone gets shot.
I wrote an email to my Councilmember Dave Sommers expressing my safety concerns of shooting in east Snohomish County. Instead of addressing my safety concerns, Councilmember Somers did not respond to my email. An individual named Eric Parks (I’m assuming his aide) responded to my email. Mr. Parks did not address the safety concerns either — instead he wrote a long diatribe relaying Councilmember Somers’ proposal that requires me to acquire a map of my community, determine the appropriate square mileage of the number of single family homes, meet with council staff, and then get signatures on a petition.
Isn’t it the “elusive Somer’s” job to legislate? Especially when it is related to consideration for the safety of the community he represents? Do not re-elect County Councilmember Dave Somers.
