Come on, Washington, let’s show the world that we are not as gullible as the California voters who let the rich corporations sway their votes in order to prevent GMO labeling. Maine and Connecticut have passed GMO labeling laws — so voters are becoming more aware of the dangers of genetically modified foods and demanding to have a choice. Expensive organic foods are not always the answer and some of them even contain GMO products. And many non-organic foods contain no GMOs — we have a right to know what we are eating,
Please do not be fooled by the many TV ads now running. Just remember that those promoting a “no” vote are the same companies who tried to prevent nutritional labels that are now in use and the same companies who lied about the safety of DDT, Teflon, dangerous insecticides, and margarine — just to name a few. Do we want them impregnating our food with insecticides? That is what some GMO seeds do. There is a reason why more than 60 countries have required GMO labeling and some of them have totally banned these products from their shelves and refuse to allow American GMO products to be purchased by their farmers — they know that they are dangerous. Many scientists and organizations (Consumers Union, Organic Farmers, Mother Earth News, etc.) feel that they are unsafe, and want truthful labeling and more testing by laboratories without a vested interest in selling these products.
If GMO foods are so totally safe and good for you, why wouldn’t those companies that have them in their products, be proud of them and want that fact on their labels? Why are they trying so hard to prevent us from knowing the truth? Please vote yes on 522 — your children and grandchildren’s lives may depend on it.
