Prep volleyball: Mount Vernon 3, Edmonds-Woodway 0

EDMONDS -- Mariella Vandenkooy put away 14 kills and Karly Jones added 12 kills as Mount Vernon earned a 4A state tournament berth by shocking top-seeded Edmonds-Woodway in a semifinal match in the 4A District 1 tournament. Sid Eck had 10 kills, 16 digs and three blocks for the Warriors, who now must face Monroe in a loser-out contest. The Bulldogs will play Snohomish for the district championship. Both matches will be held on Thursday at Mariner H.S.
