Notes from Pete Carroll's Wednesday press conference
--Neither concussed of the players who sustained concussions Sunday, DE Red Bryant or C Max Unger, will practice today as they continue to go through the league’s concussion protocol.
--Receiver Percy Harvin had a “good workout today,” Carroll said, but won’t practice this afternoon. Carroll described Harvin as being in “Phase 2” of his rehab, and said Harvin’s return is a matter of when, not if, when asked if there was a chance of him not returning this season.
“It’s just a matter of time,” Carroll said. “. . . We just have to do it right so he can finish the season with us.”
--Carroll said injured tackles Breno Giacomini (knee) and Russell Okung (toe) will indeed practice today. Okung isn’t eligible to play until Nov. 17, and Carroll said it’s still not likely Giacomini can return to game action this week after just getting back on the practice field.
--S Jeron Johnson (hamstring) will return to practice this week, while FB Derrick Coleman (hamstring) is not yet ready.
--Carroll said RB Marshawn Lynch won't practice today, which mean's he'll show up on the injury report, but it's nothing to worry about. Lynch went through today's walkthrough, and Carroll said the RB came out of Sunday's game fine. This is just the usual maintenance.
--When talking about the team’s struggling run defense, Carroll was asked if there might be more chances for Malcolm Smith to play. Smith played very well in two starts at weakside linebacker, then played sparingly in St. Louis, and didn’t play on defense at all last weekend. Carroll said they are looking for ways to “elevate their opportunities,” meaning the tandem of KJ Wright at middle linebacker and Smith at weakside linebacker, the combo that worked well against the run in those two games. That doesn’t mean Bobby Wagner will suddenly become the odd man out, however. Instead Carroll suggested the Seahawks will rotate linebacker some to keep guys fresh.
--Rookie tackle Alvin Bailey played one series at left tackle in Sunday’s game, and Carroll said they’re hoping to get Bailey a little more playing time this week.
