Your guide to Everett fun in November

Sean Straub of Experience Everett is sharing this guide to what’s coming up in Everett this month. Look for more updates each month.

Escape the cold embrace of approaching winter weather. There’s no shortage of indoor activities to keep you warm this month. Here are a few of our favorite cold weather escapes.

Arts &Culture

Schack Art Center (2921 Hoyt Ave.) has a massive hot shop. Need we say more? Glassblowing takes place most days, but check ahead to ensure you’ll be able to see the awe-inspiring process of making glass art. Find that one-of-a-kind gift you’ve been looking for in their impressive gallery. Or check out one of their upcoming events. Schack Style, a trunk sale and fashion show, takes place today (Nov. 7). And Veterans Art Days offers military veteran and active duty personnel FREE art classes over Veterans Weekend, November 9th-11th. Additional details available here.

Village Theatre at Everett Performing Arts Center (2710 Wetmore Ave.) has been entertaining thousands of showgoers with outstanding performances for years. Their latest production, “Xanadu,” continues this legacy. Herald reporter Alice Kaderlan put it best when she wrote, “There’s no way to avoid the silliness of the Greek mythology-meets-roller disco story but with a zesty score and the Village’s candy-colored sets, costumes and lighting effects, it’s easy to suspend belief.”

Greek mythology and roller skates? We’re in. You can read the review at here and purchase tickets here.

Celebrate art &culture in Everett at the 2013 Richard Wendt Award of Excellence &Mayor’s Arts Awards on Nov. 21. Social hour (with refreshments) starts at 5 p.m. and the program begins at 6 p.m. at the Weyerhaeuser Room at Everett Station (3201 Smith Ave.). The awards honor community members who’ve made major impacts to art &culture in Everett. Details available here.

Live Music &Entertainment

If you’re like us, nothing goes better with dinner than some live entertainment (and a good bottle of wine). Bet you didn’t know that Everett is home to dozens of live music and comedy acts each month. Lucky for you, we’ve curated a list of places that regularly offer entertainment. That list is available here.

Some of our favorite upcoming shows:

Everett Music Initiative’s Black&White Gala featuring Shelby Earl and Joseph on Nov. 8. And their Nov. 23 show featuring LAKE, Silver Torches and Fauna Shade. Tickets for both events here. These guys are reinventing the music scene in Everett.

Under the Red Umbrella (1520 Rucker Ave.) has no shortage of charm. Live jazz every Friday night. Details here. Perfect date night.

The C.U.T. (3231 Broadway) and Cafe Zippy (2811 Wetmore Ave.) are both all ages venues with all types of entertainment several times per month. Details about these places and more available here. We are in love with Zippy’s vegan hummus black bean wrap. Who knew healthy could taste this good.

Catch a show in the oldest operating theatre in the State of Washington. Historic Everett Theatre (2911 Colby Ave.) hosts the Hometown Hootenanny on Nov. 9, Warren Miller’s Ticket to Ride on Nov. 21, an Ed Sullivan themed variety show dubbed A Really Big Shoe 2nd Edition, and several performances of Seattle’s only Heavy Metal Opera (yes, you read that right – Heavy. Metal. Opera.), Aeterno Elementum, produced by Ara’Kus Productions. Tickets and all show information available here.

Comcast Arena (2000 Hewitt Ave.) hosts Disney on Ice Rockin’ Ever After November 21st – 24th. The most magical show on ice will have families rocking out with familiar Disney characters (we had a crush on Ariel growing up) in a musical showcase that features the hottest tunes and talent from across the Disney kingdom. And you won’t want to miss the hometown heros of the Everett Silvertips Hockey club. Currently on a twelve game winning streak, the “Tips” have six more home games in November. Click here for tickets and details.

Looking for more family friendly events? Imagine Children’s Museum (1502 Wall St.) is throwing a North Pole Party on November 23rd. Santa will be making an appearance, so bring your camera. Or stop by the museum on November 15th for FREE Friday Night Live, with free admission to the museum between 5:30 – 9PM. More information available here.

Get Outdoors

Sure, it might be dark, cold and damp more often than not. But we’re from Washington, and a little rain never stopped us from enjoying life. Here’s a couple fun things to do outside in November.

The 2013 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree will stop in Everett from 10 a.m. to Noon on Nov. 8, as part of its state tour before continuing to Washington, DC. The tree comes from the Colville National Forest in Washington’s northeast corner. All are invited to come see the Capitol Christmas Tree at the Snohomish County Campus Amphitheater (3000 Rockefeller Ave.). SnoCo Executive John Lovick and other local officials will greet the tree, and visitors can enjoy musical performances, a costumed Santa, and Smokey the Bear. Visitors can also take photos in front of the official Capitol tree. The musical schedule will feature the following performances by The Everett Chorale (10–10:45 a.m.), Snohomish County Children’s Choir (10:45–11:30 a.m.) and local singer-songwriter Jenny Vick (11:30 a.m. to noon). Everett’s Imagine Children’s Museum will also be present to add to the fun. Click here for details.

Interested in seeing trees in their natural setting? The Herald’s Jessi Loerch shared a wonderful fall hike just minutes from Everett at Lord Hill Regional Park. Read more about that here.

The ExpEv decided to celebrate by doing a film contest. It’s pretty simple. Create a short film (90 seconds or less) about why you love Everett and you could win something. Prizes include cash and a GoPro camera. Five lucky winners will have their films viewed by Hollywood Producer/Director Rick Rosenthal and will be screened before the Everett premier of Seven Minutes at a special event next year.
