CHEHALIS — The Lewis County sheriff’s department says the skeleton of a missing Tacoma man may have been found in Packwood.
Hikers contacted authorities after they found a wrecked car over a cliff near U.S. 12. They checked the vehicle and found skeletal remains nearby.
Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said the vehicle had fallen about 275 feet over an embankment. Detectives found no evidence of a crime, but they believe the vehicle was traveling at highway speed when it left the roadway. That area does not have a guard rail.
Brown said the vehicle’s registered owner is a man who was reported missing last year. The skeleton has not been positively identified. The county coroner’s office will release the man’s name after their investigation is complete.
