Longview driver gets 30 days for pedestrian death

LONGVIEW -- A Longview driver who struck and killed a pedestrian last year has been sentenced to 30 days in jail.
Jennifer Oskey appeared in Cowlitz County Superior Court Friday and pleaded guilty to third-degree assault in a plea deal reached with prosecutors.
The Daily News of Longview reported that the victim's family was outraged by the sentence and sobbed in court.
Julia Smith had finished her morning run on Sept. 17, 2012 when she was hit by an SUV driven by Oskey. Smith died in front of her Longview home.
Prosecutors said they reached a plea agreement because they weren't sure a jury would convict Oskey on vehicular homicide.
Oskey apologized to the family.
