EDMONDS — Firefighters plan a dinner party and art auction fundraiser Dec. 6 as part of ongoing efforts to build a 9/11 memorial park in Edmonds.
Local crews will host and serve the dinner, firefighter Dave Erickson said.
The memorial park is planned at the corner of Sprague Street and Sixth Avenue N., near the police and fire stations.
The project, including the acquisition of a steel beam from the site of the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City, is years in the making.
The one-ton beam will be on display at the auction, Erickson said. Local businesses and artists also contributed to the event. The fundraiser is set for 6 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Edmonds Conference Center, 201 Fourth Ave. N.
Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at Fire Station 17, 275 Sixth Ave. N, Edmonds, or at edmonds911memorial.org.
The estimated cost of the memorial is $150,000. No government money can be used.
