MONTESANO — Grays Harbor County still doesn’t have a permanent prosecutor after the attorney picked by commissioners declined the job.
KBKW reports that Vini Samuel declined the appointment in a letter Wednesday to county commissioners and urged them to pick deputy prosecutor Katie Svoboda.
Commissioners on Monday had asked Samuel to take the oath of office to replace former Grays Harbor County Prosecutor Stew Menefee who retired Sept. 30. She declined to answer until Wednesday.
Samuel was appointed to the post a month ago. She and two others were on a list of candidates provided by the Democratic Party.
Superior Court Judge Gordon Godfrey has raised concerns about not having a prosecutor. He has questioned whether the interim prosecuting attorney is authorized to run the operation.
