After not practicing this week, Percy Harvin is listed as doubtful for Monday’s game against New Orleans. That’s hardly encouraging news for the Seahawks after Harvin returned from a hip injury prior to the bye, but Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said there is nothing wrong structurally, just soreness that has persisted through the bye week.
“I thought we would have a chance to get him back,” Carroll said. “We kept him rehabilitating throughout the week because his hip was sore coming out of the game, and we thought he would get back. We’re going to list him as doubtful right now, he’s had a lot of stuff done to help him. We’ll just have to wait, and we’ll go all the way to until Monday with this to see what happens, unfortunately he didn’t make it back like we thought he would. It’s more important for us to get him back for the longer haul, so if we wait another couple of days here and get through the week—I thought with the days off it would all work together, but it didn’t work out quite right for us. So unfortunately he didn’t make it.”
Asked if there was new structural damage, Carroll said, “No, it’s just responding from the load of the game. He only had 19 plays and 16 active plays in there, so it was very much, but he’s just sore. So we don’t want to push it beyond that right now. It’s not worth it.”
“We have to go day-to-day, that’s the facts. I’ve told you that, that’s the only way we can go right now. We don’t see any big issue structurally, there’s nothing, we’ve looked at everything, it’s just him back and making sure he’s balanced in that area so he can handle the work load.”
Asked another follow up, Carroll said, “He just hasn’t gotten rid of the soreness from the game. We thought that would go with the week break and all of that, but it’s just lasted a little longer that we thought. And with anything at all not right, we’re not going with him. We’re going to make sure he’s 100 percent before we go. There’s a lot of stuff he could do right now. He could go out and run around and all that, but he’s just not quite perfect for it, so we’re going to wait it out.”
Other than Harvin, and Brandon Browner, who is ruled out with a groin injury, the Seahawks should be healthy going into the game. The only other two players on this week’s injury report are Marshawn Lynch (knee) and Jermaine Kearse (concussion) practiced fully and are listed as probable.
As for the decision to cut Perrish Cox a day after signing him, Carroll said that was related to the uncertainty about Brandon Browner’s status. Browner had the appeal of his suspension heard earlier this week, and the Seahawks are awaiting word on whether the cornerback might be available again this season.
“We didn’t know what we would do with Brandon at the time, we’re still waiting,” Carroll said. “We’re still waiting to figure out what his status is going to be. That really is what happened, we’re keeping that spot alive.
“We should hear by the middle of next week at the latest. That’s kind of what has been indicated, but that doesn’t mean that’s going to happen. But that’s what normally would happen.”
