KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. — The founder of the Boeing Co. is being celebrated on the 110th anniversary of the Wright Brothers’ historic flight.
Ceremonies marking the 110th anniversary of the Wright brothers’ first flight were scheduled for Tuesday.
The National Park Service and the First Flight Society are leading the celebration, highlighted by the induction of William Edward Boeing, founder of the aviation company in Seattle in 1916, into the group’s Paul E. Garber First Flight Shrine.
Boeing started Pacific Aero Products Co. before winning a contract to build 50 planes for the Navy as the U.S. entered World War I. He later changed the company’s name to Boeing Airplane Co.
Louis Mancini, Boeing’s senior vice president for commercial aviation services, is scheduled to give the keynote address.
