Late run leads Sultan boys over Cedarcrest 78-75

SULTAN — Trailing by 10 points with just over four minutes to play, Sultan started playing some defense and went on an 11-0 run to take a 72-71 lead en route to a Cascade Conference victory over Cedarcrest.

“We finally started getting our hands up on defense,” said Sultan head coach Nate Trichler of the late run.

Bubba Branham scored a season- and game-high 28 points for Sultan and had a key 3-pointer in the late run. Giovonni Williams scored 23 and Tyler Morris added 15 to help the Turks’ effort.

Sultan had trouble containing Cedarcrest’s Austin Paxman, who finished with 19 points. Paxman had two big 3-pointers early in the fourth quarter to stretch Cedarcrest’s lead to 10 points.

Trichler said this was Sultan’s first win over Cedarcrest since 2009.
