Officer, police dog injured in scuffle with suspect
Snohomish County sheriff's deputies on Monday were in the area of 177th Avenue NE, near Granite Falls, after neighbors reported seeing a suspicious man nearby.
Deputies saw the man standing near his truck, according to the arrest report. The man ran away, but officers got his name from the truck's registration.
The man, 43, had a warrant for his arrest from a previous felony drug case, the report says.
Deputies warned the man to reveal himself numerous times before they let the dog chase him down in some bushes. The man then reportedly choked the dog and resisted arrest.
The dog, "Jack," and the deputy both were injured in the scuffle, but both were OK and back at work Wednesday, sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital to be checked over before being booked Tuesday into the Snohomish County Jail on the arrest warrant and the new offenses. He also sustained two dog bites.
It is a felony under state law to assault a police dog or a police horse.
