Granite Falls to contract with Sheriff's office
The vote was 4-0, with one councilmember absent, said City Clerk Darla Reese.
The Granite Falls mayor, who leaves office Dec. 31, fired the police chief in October.
The department has four police officers and 10 reserve officers. One of the officers has been serving as interim chief.
The sheriff's office is negotiating with the city to use the downtown police station, Sheriff Ty Trenary said Thursday. The contract is expected to start March 1.
Granite Falls officers will have to go through the sheriff's background checks before being hired.
In addition to unincorporated areas, the sheriff's office contracts to provide deputies to local cities including Snohomish, Stanwood, Darrington and Sultan.
