Pete Carroll told a story earlier this week about arriving at the practice facility early Monday morning, only to have his quarterback beat him to the building. Russell Wilson confirmed today that he was indeed at the VMAC by 4:15 or 4:30 in the morning.
“It’s just one of those things where you just want to watch the tape and figure out what you did well, what you didn’t do so well,” Wilson said. “I’m an early person anyway, and usually after games, win or lose, I don’t sleep that great, just because you’re sleeping about the game and you’re restless, or your body’s a little bit sore or whatever. Sometimes you just need to work, that way you can put it away and move on to the next opportunity. That’s what that was.”
As for what Wilson needs to do to improve upon one of his worst games as a pro, he said, “Just try to find a way to deliver the football a little more accurately, that’s what it really comes down to. Just making the plays. I’m usually pretty high percentage wise in terms of that, but you just move on, you forget about it and move onto the next opportunity. That’s the great thing about it, it’s another championship opportunity for us, and our biggest goal is to try to find a way to win this football game.”
Asked about his accuracy struggles, Wilson said, “Sometimes you just have a bad day. Sometimes your days are great, sometimes they’re good and sometimes you just have one or two bad days in there. Hopefully you can get rid of those days. It’s that whole baseball analogy, some days you go 0 for 5, but you keep swinging. So the biggest thing for me is to continue to do what I’ve done all year, continue to be consistent, be clutch when we need it, be the calm in the storm. I’m not going to waver, I never have, never will, so my thing is to stay in the moment, stay in the now, and just try to keep drives alive and be dominant in the red zone.”
Wilson said he’s fine if people want to blame him for the fact that the Seahawks are struggling on third down of late, “The biggest thing on third downs is we’ve just got to execute and I’ve just got to be better. That’s what it really comes down to. I’ll take the blame for it, I’m excited about that, I love a challenge.”
As for the fact that the Seahawks have lost two of three and are now facing a must-win game to make sure they get the No. 1 seed, Wilson said nobody is changing their approach this week in the lead-up to a huge game.
“We’re 12-3, that’s a pretty good situation for us, so we’re looking forward to it,” he said. “There’s no stress in the building, there’s no worries. We believe in what we do, we believe in our coaching staff, we believe in our football players, we believe in our fans, we believe in ourselves. We’re going to have to play a great football game, we’re going to have to play a championship-style of game come Sunday, and we’re excited about that. The great thing about it is it comes down to the last week, and it’s in our hands and hopefully we can take control of the game.”
