“…psychobilly thunder and outlaw country…”
That’s the way Cookie Spirk describes the music to be played at a New Year’s Eve concert and dance to benefit the Northwest Music Foundation.
The Stanwood-based foundation provides financial help to homegrown musicians who want to write their own music and market their own recordings.
“Our primary goal is to perpetuate the art of song writing,” said Spirk, the foundation’s president. “But that also includes donating music supplies for schools and helping community groups that serve kids.”
The New Year’s Eve fundraiser, sponsored by Splatterhouse Wreckords and Diamond Knot Brewery, features a buffet, a champagne toast at midnight and the music of four bands, beginning at 8 p.m. Dec. 31 at 2701 102nd Ave. NW, Stanwood (the former Cyndy’s Broiler).
Trainwreck, a country rock band from Stanwood, plans to play a mix of country, Southern rock and classic rock from the 1970s through current hits, as well as originals by the band.
More America, with singer Krista Blackburn and guitarist Jim Leslie, is an indie Americana songwriting duo from Arlington. They describes themselves as producers of “dark” hillbilly music.
The Hard Money Saints band, led by Jack Rainwater from Roy, Wash., plays original rockabilly with punk and metal musical influences.
Angie and the Car Wrecks, the headliners for the evening, are from Shelton. Their rockabilly-punk-metal sound includes an electric washboard.
Admission is $10, with food and drink extra. All proceeds benefit the Northwest Music Foundation. More about the foundation is available online at www.nwmusicfoundation.net.
