State may take custody of boat that sank in harbor
The Kitsap Sun reported Thursday that officials are taking action because they say the owner hasn't taken responsibility of the tugboat Chickamauga. The state Department of Natural Resources intends to take custody of the boat in mid-January. The state could then use or dispose of the vessel and the owner would be liable for the associated costs.
Boat owner Anthony Smith already owes the U.S. Coast Guard for clean-up costs. The boat sank in Eagle Harbor Marina at the beginning of October, leaked fuel and then was pulled out of the water by a crane.
