Silvertips top Thunderbirds 4-3 in overtime

KENT -- The Everett Silvertips had to work overtime to do it, but they came away with a split against the Seattle Thunderbirds.
Brayden Low scored the winner in overtime as the Tips beat the T-birds 4-3 Saturday night in the back end of a home-and-home set that opened the second half of the season.
Low shot from a tight angle off the rush, and the puck found its way past Seattle goaltender Danny Mumaugh with 1 minute, 34 seconds remaining in the extra period to send the Tips home victorious.
Carson Stadnyk added two goals for Everett to continue his hot streak. Stadnyk has five goals in his past three games.
Jujhar Khaira scored the other goal for the Tips (23-11-4-0), who moved one point ahead of Seattle for second place in the WHL's U.S. Division. Daniel Cotton earned the win in goal, making 39 saves.
Roberts Lipsbergs, Ryan Gropp and Branden Troock scored for Seattle (22-10-2-3), which still managed to come away with three points from the two games by getting Saturday's game into OT. Mumaugh finished with 37 saves.
Saturday's game was a battle of momentum. Seattle grabbed a 2-0 lead, Everett scored three straight to go ahead, then Seattle tied it and had chances to win it in regulation.
Through two periods all the scoring came from power plays. Seattle received the only power play of the first period and converted at 10:09 when Lipsbergs put in his own rebound off the rush. Then at 4:30 of the second the T-birds scored a five-on-three goal as Gropp put home a rebound.
Everett then responded two power-play goals of its own later in the second. Khaira got the Tips on the board at 14:06, taking the puck out front from behind the goal and putting a shot into the top of the net. Then Stadnyk tied it at 18:58 when he poked the puck in during a scramble.
Stadnyk struck again 5:16 into the third when he held off a defender and put a shot into the top corner.
But Seattle took control of the period from there and tied it at 9:58, Troock being the beneficiary of a kind deflection. The T-birds continued to dominate the puck, putting 21 shots on goal in the period, but Cotton made several solid stops to get the game into overtime and give Everett a chance to win it.
