STANWOOD — An investigation was ongoing Thursday after a man was shot the night before while in a boat near Warm Beach the night before.
The 47-year-old was shot in the leg about 5 p.m. on New Year’s Day. At the time, the man and his brother were on a duck hunt, said Shari Ireton, spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives have been told the men were several yards off shore when they heard loud noises. A bullet struck the boat, a decoy and then the man’s leg, Ireton said. No other gunfire was reported.
Investigators on Thursday were gathering evidence, including shrapnel and bullet fragments, Ireton said. No arrests had been made.
“Detectives at this time believe there is no reason to believe that there is any additional threat to public safety,” she said.
Duck hunting season generally runs until late January, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the sheriff’s tip line at 425-388-3845.
