Pac-12 Roundup: UW women top Arizona

SEATTLE — Kelsey Plum and Aminah Williams combined for 36 points and Washington held off Arizona 55-52 Friday in the Pac-12 opener for both women’s basketball teams.

The Huskies led 30-21 at halftime and throughout most of the second half. But Arizona kept battling and took a 50-49 lead with 2:18 remaining on a basket by LaBrittney Jones. UW regained the lead for good 19 seconds later on a jumper by Williams, who finished with 13 points and 16 rebounds.

Washington point guard Jazmine Davis all but sealed the victory with a free throw with two seconds remaining that gave the Huskies their three-point advantage.

Plum led all scorers with 23 points. Candice Warthen paced Arizona with 16.

Washington State 85, No. 24 Arizona St. 78

PULLMAN — Lia Galdeira scored 27 points as Washington State beat its second ranked opponent this season.

Tia Presley had 17 points to lead the Cougars, who also have win over No. 18 Nebraska this season.

Stanford 96, Oregon 66

STANFORD, Calif. — Chiney Ogwumike had 33 points and 14 boards to become the Pac-12’s all-time leading rebounder as No. 4 Stanford beat Oregon in the Pac-12 opener for both schools.

Ogwumike has 1,271 rebounds and moved past Kayla Pedersen’s previous conference and Stanford record of 1,266.

Cascade High School graduate Danielle Love scored eight points for Oregon.

UCLA 55, Utah 38

LOS ANGELES — Nirra Fields scored 21 points as UCLA evened its conference record at 1-1. Michelle Plouffe led Utah with 10 points. She was the only Ute to reach double figures.

No. 23 Cal 72, Oregon State 63

BERKELEY, Calif. — Brittany Boyd scored 25 points, seven in the final six minutes as No. 23 California held off Oregon State in the Pac 12 opener for both schools.

USC 55, No. 12 Colorado 45

LOS ANGELES — Cassie Harberts scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead USC to a win over No. 12 Colorado. Harberts gave USC a 46-45 lead when she converted two free throws with 3:08 to play.
