Another candidate for an open seat in the 21st Legislative District
Liias plans to give up the seat to run for the state Senate seat now held by Democrat Paull Shin, who doesn't plan to seek a fifth four-year term in this year's election.
The newest candidate for the two-year term in the House is Democrat Darrell Chapman, a retired official of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Chapman plans to register in a few days with the State Public Disclosure Commission, joining fellow Democrats Lillian Ortiz-Self and Dick McManus, and Republican Jeffrey Thorp, as candidates for the position that Liias holds.
Chapman had announced his candidacy for the seat two years ago before Liias' plans to run for Congress were thwarted by redistricting.
Chapman will start this year's campaign with the $10,584 he raised in 2012.
Ortiz-Self has raised $5,370. Neither McManus nor Thorp has reported raising any money.
McManus has sought to run for other positions in the past but hasn't been able to pay the filing fee, but he says that this year will be different.
Candidates file in May for positions on the August primary ballot, with the top two vote getters advancing to the November general election.
Liias so far is the only candidate for the District's state Senate seat, and Democratic state Rep. Mary Helen Roberts has no announced opponents for re-election.
The 21st District includes most of Edmonds, unincorporated areas north of Edmonds and Lynnwood, all of Mukilteo and part of south Everett.
