Edmonds’ finance director quits, citing 'lack of respect'
Roger Neumaier was Edmonds’ most recently hired department director, having started only in June. He previously worked as Snohomish County finance director.
In his resignation letter, Neumaier praised city employees and Mayor Dave Earling’s leadership.
As reasons for leaving, he cited “lack of civility” and “conflict” emanating from City Council members, whom he did not name.
The mayor issued a statement saying he was sorry to lose Neumaier.
“This is a serious issue, and the council will need to challenge themselves with how to better interact with staff,” Earling said. “I will be meeting with council leadership to explore ways to create more effective relationships between staff and the City Council.”
Earling said he intends to hire a new finance director as soon as possible.
