PAINE FIELD — An M4A1 Sherman tank crashed through the wall of a vacant building on the south side of Paine Field next to the Flying Heritage Museum on Wednesday morning.
The tank, which is part of the museum’s collection, was helping out in the demolition of buildings on the site where the museum plans a “tank arena.”
Currently the museum has to lay down large rubber mats to bring their tanks out onto the tarmac at Paine Field. With the addition of the tank arena, tanks will be able to freely roam, showing off the unique capabilities the machines possess.
The museum hopes to have the tank arena ready by May for “TankFest Northwest.”
