Seattle Sounders FC added two midfielders Tuesday as Major League Soccer’s annual SuperDraft came to a close.
With the 55th overall pick, the Sounders selected Stefano Rijssel (REE-sell), 21, who has played five professional seasons in Trinidad and Tobago and Suriname.
With the 77th pick, they took Fabio Pereira, 22, a native of Brazil who was a four-year starter at the University of Michigan.
“We all saw (Rijssel) at the MLS Combine,” assistant coach and scout Kurt Schmid said. “He showed good tactical sense as well as physical qualities. He can play wide in midfield, but also has some versatility. … Fabio can play all over midfield and has a good engine. Both players have the ability to compete for a spot on our roster.”
The Sounder begin preseason training Saturday at Starfire Sports in Tukwila.
Also in the SuperDraft, Aodhan Quinn, who had played for the Pierce County-based Sounders U-23, was selected by the Philadelphia Union with the 52nd overall pick.
