Gay Lynne Nixon taught for many years

LYNNWOOD — Gay Lynne Nixon, a retired math teacher and wife of former President Richard Nixon’s brother, Ed Nixon, died Monday at her home here.
She was 76, and had suffered for several years from Alzheimer’s disease.
From 1967 until 1995, Gay Lynne Nixon taught middle school and high school math in the Edmonds School District. She worked as a private tutor after retirement. An accomplished musician, she played the accordion and classical guitar.
Along with her husband, she is survived by daughters Amelie “Amy” Peiffer, of Kent, and Elizabeth “Beth” Matheny, of Everett.
A native of the New Orleans area, she graduated from Tulane University with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. She earned her teaching credentials at the University of Washington.
No immediate services are planned.
