Car-pedestrian fatal in Edmonds ruled an accident
“It’s just tragic,” Edmonds police Sgt. Mark Marsh said.
Eleanor “Ellie” Bonanno was hit by a car just before 5 p.m. Jan. 20 in the 800 block of Walnut Street.
She was taken by ambulance to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and died from her injuries Thursday, Marsh said.
The driver — an Edmonds man, 66 — was headed eastbound on Walnut at the time of the crash.
“The initial investigation did not indicate there was any excessive speed on the vehicle’s part,” Marsh said.
As is standard procedure with a fatal car crash, traffic detectives are doing extensive work to reconstruct the collision, Marsh said. The process could take several months.
“They are just very methodical going through everything,” Marsh said.
The driver has been cooperative and submitted to a voluntary blood test.
Bonanno — a mother of five, grandmother of six and great-grandmother of three — taught in the Edmonds School District for more than 20 years. She lived in the same home on Walnut since 1956, according to her obituary.
A memorial is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Maplewood Presbyterian Church, 19523 84th Ave W, Edmonds.
Memorials can go to the Maplewood Presbyterian Church or the Sno-King School Retirees Scholarship Fund.
