Puyallup man gets 7 years after pot grow shooting

TACOMA — A Puyallup man who fatally shot two masked, armed intruders at his marijuana grow operation in December 2012 has been sentenced to seven years in prison on drug and gun charges.
The U.S. attorney’s office said Jeremy Peter Capodanno, 36, was sentenced Friday in federal court in Tacoma. He earlier pleaded guilty to manufacturing marijuana and possession of a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime. In his Puyallup garage was a marijuana grow operation with nearly 200 plants.
Capodanno is also forfeiting nearly $670,000 from the sale of two homes.
The Pierce County prosecutor’s office determined the man acted in self-defense in the shootings.
U.S. District Judge Ronald Leighton told Capodanno, in the judge’s words, “to set the conditions for the fire fight in your garage is inexcusable.” Prosecutors described the man as “a long-time drug trafficker.”
After his sentencing, Capodanno told KING-TV, in his words, “They were going to shoot me, too, I just got them before they got me.”
