Weekend fun: Family show, music, flytraps, more

Family funtime: It’s a kids kind of day in Edmonds as the Edmonds Center for the Arts hosts its annual family event with concerts, arts workshops, face painting, hula hoops, puppets and plays. The fun begins at 9:30 a.m. and goes until 2:30 p.m. More details are in our story here.

‘Annie’ anyone? You have one last chance to see “Annie Jr.” at the PUD theater Saturday night. The Ludus Youth Theatre production begins at 7 p.m. at the auditorium at 2320 California St., Everett. Tickets — $10, $8 and $5 — are available at the door.

Give a hoot: The Hometown Hootenanny, bluegrass style, is at the Historic Everett Theatre at 7:30 Saturday night. Bands include North Country Bluegrass, Money Creek Mining Company, Faast &Blair and Stillwater Hill. Get tickets, $5 to $17, by calling 425-258-6766 or at the box office. The box office opens at 6:30 p.m. at the theater at 2911 Colby Ave., Everett.

Trap a flytrap: Kids can create and take home a carnivorous aquarium filled with plants that bite. Fifth- through 12th-graders will learn all about these meat-eaters from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Everett Public Library. Space is limited, so call 425-257-8030 to register. The library is at 2702 Hoyt Ave., Everett.

Horsing around: See Chinese New Year celebrations including a lion dance and martial arts exhibitions from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Mountlake Terrace Library. All ages are welcome. The library is at 23300 58th Ave. W. Call 425-776-8722 for more information.

Geocaching: Get an introduction to geocaching with an experienced trip leader on Sunday at Cama Beach. Get more info here.

Sweetheart of Gems: Whidbey Island Gem Club presents its annual show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 8 and 9 at the Oak Harbor Senior Center, 51 SE Jerome St. Free admission. See exhibits, demonstrations, dealers, rough and finished rocks and gems. – See more here.

Hearts and stickers: Valentine’s supplies are waiting for little fingers to start creating from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Snohomish Library’s Crafternoon. How many can you make? The library is at 311 Maple Ave. Call 360-568-2898 with questions.

Free boating seminars: Everett Sail &Power Squadron offers two free seminars Saturday. Mariner’s Compass (10 a.m. to noon) and How to Use a Chart (1 to 3 p.m.) will introduce boaters to the basic navigation tools needed to get from here to there on the water. Held in the training room of Harbor Marine, 1032 W. Marine Dr., Everett, WA 98201. Check their website for directions. No reservation needed. Racing on ice: See motorcycles and ATVs race around an ice track. The fun starts at 7:30 p.m. at Comcast Arena in Everett. Get tickets here.

Stairs: Seattle Stairways walk day is on Saturday. The event is based on the book “Seattle Stairway Walks.” If you’d like to do some urban hiking, the event is from 10 a.m. to noon. Get more info and register here. It’s free, but donations are welcome.
