EVERETT — Police on Saturday arrested the 16-year-old son of a woman whose body was found a day earlier in an Everett apartment.
The boy was expected to be booked into Denney Juvenile Justice Center for investigation of murder, Everett police officer Aaron Snell said.
Police have not released the boy’s name.
Detectives worked overnight, collecting evidence at the scene. Investigators have not released any details about how the woman died or any possible motive.
The Herald is not naming the woman because she hasn’t been officially identified by the Snohomish County medical examiner.
The woman was quoted in a 2010 story in The Herald when she sought help locating a boy in her care. The boy, then 12, ran away from a counseling session at Compass Health in Everett.
The woman said she was the boy’s guardian and had been raising him since he was a toddler. The woman said she was concerned about the boy’s whereabouts because he suffered from a number of medical problems and needed twice-daily medication. The boy returned home two days after he went missing.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the suspect arrested Saturday was the same boy.
Police say the woman’s son initially called 911 on Friday afternoon. Officers arrived and found the woman’s body inside an apartment in the 8200 block of Fifth Avenue W.
No other details were immediately available.
