Cotton, DeRoose suspended by Silvertips

EVERETT — The Everett Silvertips have suspended goaltender Daniel Cotton and winger Darcy DeRoose indefinitely for violating team rules.

Everett general manager Garry Davidsion declined to comment Wednesday on the nature of the rules violation or the possible lengths of the suspensions. However, both players have been sent home.

“It’s disappointing we have to discipline the players,” Davidson said. “I arrived here two years ago with the idea we would put together a quality program on and off the ice. That’s the direction we’re heading and I think our actions speak for themselves. We’re going to run a solid program and each and every person who’s involved, whether it’s our staff or players or whoever, has to fall into line with the way we want to do business here.”

Cotton is in his second season with the team, having spent his time primarily as Everett’s No. 2 goaltender. This season the 19-year-old from West Vancouver, B.C., is 8-4-4-0 with a 3.03 goals against average and .874 save percentage.

DeRoose joined the team this season from the junior A ranks after being added to Everett’s 50-player protected list. The 18-year-old from Ceylon, Saskatchewan, has one goal and five assists in 35 games.

The suspensions come at a time when the Tips have been struggling to field a full lineup because of injuries. Last weekend was the first time Everett had a healthy scratch in weeks.

Tips sign Hart

Everett made it official Wednesday, announcing the signing of prospect goaltender Carter Hart to a WHL education contract. Hart revealed his signing with the team on Twitter last week, but it was not confirmed by the team at the time.

Hart, a 15-year-old from Sherwood Park, Alberta, was Everett’s eighth-round pick in the 2013 bantam draft. This season he’s playing with the Sherwood Park NIC Squires of the Alberta Midget Minor Hockey League, with whom he’s 13-3-3 with a 1.92 goals against average and .937 save percentage. He is the first member of Everett’s 2013 draft class to sign with the team.

Hart was already scheduled to spend this week in Everett practicing with the team. With Cotton suspended, Hart’s stint with the Tips is being extended a few a days, and he will serve as Everett’s back-up goaltender for this weekend’s three-in-three.
