SNOHOMISH — After quick pins in his first two matches of the day, Meadowdale’s Ciaran Ball had to eke out a 4-2 win over Hanford’s Will Bishop in the championship bout of the 195-pound weight division in the 3A Region IV Tournament at Glacier Peak H.S. on Saturday.
Ball was one of only two Wesco wrestlers to win regional titles as Shorewood’s Matthew Floresca held off University’s Cam Sorensen in the 126-pound championship for the other title.
University, of Spokane, won the team title with 197 points. Led by a third-place finishes by Logan Coleman and Mosese Fifita at 160 and 285 pounds, respectively, Glacier Peak was the highest placing Wesco team with 82 points, good enough for sixth place. Grizzlies’ 126-pounder John Kim also advanced to state with a fourth-place finish.
Mountlake Terrace finished eighth with four top-four finishers, including Daniil Oliferovskiy, who finished third at 152 pounds after a 7-2 win over Mt. Spokane’s Hayden Hohman. Taron Castleton (138), Syd Springberg (182) and Brett Potter (195) will also be going to state after finishing fourth.
Joining Ball at state will be teammate Tim Smith, who pinned Southridge’s Marcus Surita in 2 minutes, 35 seconds.
