WHAT: Cryptomeria japonica ‘Sekkan sugi’ is a golden Japanese cedar and the national tree of Japan.
It creates a major visual impact in the residential garden due to its bronze to golden foliage.
The new growth comes on as a vanilla-cream color, which is accentuated by the greenish-bronze tones in winter.
SUN OR SHADE: Sekkan sugi performs best in full sun but tolerates dappled shade.
SIZE: This tree is easily kept short with a little pruning. It can be maintained at 10 feet tall by 4 feet wide or,left to its own devices, it will grow to 25 feet over many years.
