MARYSVILLE — An early morning carjacking north of Everett led police to close three Marysville schools Monday after the stolen Chevy Silverado pickup truck was found near the campuses.
A man in his early 20s allegedly stole the vehicle at gunpoint around 7 a.m. on Highway 529 at Ebey Slough.
The empty white pickup was found a little after 8:30 a.m. in the 4900 block of 67th Street NE in Marysville city limits, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Kathi Lang said.
A police dog was used to try to track the suspect.
Three Marysville schools were placed in lockdown for about 90 minutes while police searched.
The campuses involved were Totem and Marysville middle schools and Liberty Elementary.
Marysville police were told the suspect might be at an apartment across the street from Marysville Middle School. When officers arrived, the suspect was not there, Marysville police Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said.
The school doors were locked tight shortly before 8:45 a.m. The lockdown was lifted around 10:15 a.m.
Some Liberty students already were on campus. Others who were taking the bus were driven to the school district headquarters where their principal was there to greet them.
“We have information the suspect is no longer in the area,” Lang said.
