KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — A Klamath County couple have pleaded not guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of their 18-month-old child.
26-year-old Thomas James Hevener and 28-year-old Danielle Nicole Hevener entered the pleas Friday in Klamath County Circuit Court. The Herald and News reported the two are also charged with criminal mistreatment and child neglect.
The charges stem from what authorities ruled to be an accidental strangulation death of Jeffrey Hevener. Authorities say the child and four others were locked in their rooms 14 hours a day, from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. The mother discovered toddler had died from an accidental hanging and called 911.
A surviving 18-month old twin and children ages 7, 5 and 2 have been placed in foster care.
