YAKIMA — Tournament MVP Brady Widner scored a game-high 21 points to lead Zillah to a 52-46 win over King’s for the Class 1A boys state championship Saturday.
It capped a perfect season for the Leopards, who finished at 27-0. They were playing in their third championship game in the past four years, having lost in 2011 and 2012.
It was the second title for Zillah coach Doug Burge, whose team also captured the crown in 1994.
Justin Dunsmore, who was also voted to the all-tournament team, added 13 points — 10 in the second half.
Tied 25-25 at the half, Zillah took the lead on a Widner 3-pointer with 6:21 left in the third. Though King’s knotted the score again twice in the fourth quarter, the Knights never retook the lead.
Kurt Calhoun grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and Dunsmore added seven as the Leopards outrebounded King’s 41-32.
