Anthony McCoy signing now official

The Seahawks have re-signed tight end Anthony McCoy to a one-year contract, a move that was first reported Monday.

McCoy, who missed all of last year with a torn Achilles tendon, said his recovery is going well and that he will be ready when the team has its first organized team activities in May.

Here’s a transcript of McCoy’s teleconference with the media following his signing:

(On if he had an interest in going into free agency…) “I think everyone always has an interest in going into free agency and seeing what their worth is in the market, but Seattle came at me tough and they were the team that drafted me so at the end of the day I felt like this was the best place to continue my career in the NFL. I feel like I made the right choice.”

(On his health, rehab and where he is physically and how far behind it all is, if it is at all…) “It’s been a long process. I tore my Achilles late May of last year and it’s been a real difficult process for me, long process. I had some of the best trainers working with me in David Stricklin and Donald Rich, working with me every day of the week, getting me right and taking their time with me. At this point in my rehabilitation process I feel like I’m just about there, ready to go and hit the field. I still have a lot more work to do to get it to where I want it to be, and Like I said I’m dealing with some of the best trainers in the league right now and I know that they’re going to have me right come September.”

(On if he will be available for OTAs and all of the stuff coming up…) “Yeah I’ll be ready for all of that.”

(On the length of his contract…) “This is a one year deal that I’m on.”

(On if there were any conversations on the role that he’s expected to have…) “I’m pretty much just like any other guy. I’m come out there to compete for a spot on the team, and I’m just going to come out and do my job as I always do. Wherever it lands me on the roster then that’s where I’m going to be. Whatever the coaches ask me, that’s my job to go out and do it to the best of my ability, and I feel that I can compete with all of the guys here. it’s going to be a great competition between all of us and I think we’re going to do really well this year with all of the guys we got coming back and all of the guys that I know the coaches are going to bring in.”

(On how difficult was it to see his guys go all the way and win the Super Bowl while he was injured…) “At first it was tough. You want to be out there and you see all of the plays that you can make and all of the things that you can do to contribute to the team’s success. Not being out there weighed a lot on me at first, but as time went by you kind of just let it pass and all you focus on is the stuff that you can control, and all I can control at that time was my rehabilitation process and that’s pretty much where all of my focus was at. It was really good to see the team be successful this year, and I’m really happy for them and I’m happy that I got to be part of that, be part of the Seahawks organization and watch them go all of the way and win the super bowl. It was fun, and it was kind of sad for me at the same time, but I’m passed it, we won the Super Bowl and now I’m on to 2014.”

(On if his health and relationship with the trainers lead him to want to stay in Seattle…) “There were a lot of factors in it, with that being one of them. I started my rehab here with these guys and it only feels right to continue with them. They know where I’m at in my rehabilitation process, they know how I’m feeling, they know where to go from here and it feels good to stick with those guys and to continue with them.”

(On what did he think about the tight end play this year…) “What I saw were two guys doing their job. They did exactly what they were asked to do every game. They asked Zach Miller to block and he blocked, they asked him to make a play for us catching the ball and he went out there and did it, the same with Luke Willson. I think they played solid this season and they contributed. They were a big contribution to this offense and to the success of this football team. I have nothing bad to say about those guys. They went out there and they did their job and they did it really well, and because of what they contributed we won the Super Bowl.”
