TACOMA — The state Department of Fish and Wildlife said razor clam digging on Washington’s beaches began Wednesday.
The digging starts on evening tides and switches to morning tides Sunday for five more days. Wildlife officials said digging is best an hour or two before low tide.
Digging began Wednesday in Twin Harbors. Long Beach and Mocrocks will be added to the list on Friday.
Diggers will need a 2014 license to dig after Monday.
Under state law, diggers can take 15 razor clams per day and are required to keep the first 15 they dig. Each digger’s clams must be kept in a separate container. Check with the Fish and Wildlife for all the regulations.
Additional razor clam digs are tentatively scheduled for April 14-20.
