Man of the Year runner-up: Levi Lacey
The Trojans did not disappoint.
Under Lacey, the team's head coach, Everett soared to a 39-9 record and the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges championship last May, beating Pierce College 4-1 in the title game. It was the first baseball title for Everett CC since 1966.
And it was particularly sweet for Lacey, who took over the team back in 2002 and built it to prominence among the 28 community college baseball programs in Washington, Oregon and British Columbia.
"It's the best ride I've been on," said Lacey, a finalist for The Herald's 2013 Man of the Year in Sports award.
"The (title) means a lot for the team and the program from where we started. ... It takes a special group to win a championship, and that's what we've got."
Earlier in the 2013 season the Trojans reached the No. 1 ranking in the NWAACC's weekly poll for the first time.
