Darrington athletics hope to get back underway Friday
The weather forecast calls for a 90 percent chance of rain, but Darrington athletic director Cory Ross is hopeful to play today’s baseball and softball games against La Conner and provide a distraction for the students, many of whom spent hours helping with relief efforts throughout this week.
“We try to keep everything as normal as possible,” Ross said on Wednesday. “Get back on the routine, get back on the regular schedule and keep the kids focused on something to do that makes everything feel normal again.”
The Darrington baseball and softball teams are both scheduled to host La Conner at 4 p.m. on Friday in the first varsity sports games since the Oso mudslide. The Loggers’ softball team played four innings of a junior varsity game against Sedro-Woolley Wednesday afternoon.
“It was a great opportunity for the team,” Howard said after the game on Wednesday. “It was a JV game and everybody came. Everybody was supporting one another. Some are running on very little sleep, but they came here today and saw it as an opportunity to support our town and show people that even in this hard case, we’re still pulling together.”
