Notes from UW Pro Day
At least 16 NFL teams were represented, including the Seahawks, who sent out a large contingent, including GM John Schneider, coach Pete Carroll, offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and several other assistants.
--The group of Huskies in action Wednesday did not include tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who was there as an observer, but still not able to perform while he recovers from a fractured foot. Seferian-Jenkins.
Seferian-Jenkins hopes to be cleared when he is re-evaluated on April 26, and says he has eight or so visits lined up with teams after he’s healthy.
Seferian-Jenkins said he was as surprised as anyone when the fractured foot was discovered at the NFL scouting combine: “It was sore during the season, but I didn’t think anything of it. It was a sore foot. It never limited me, it was just sore.”
--Running back Bishop Sankey, who performed very well at the combine, didn’t do to the full allotment of timed drills, but did run the 60-yard shuttle after being asked to by scouts. He also caught passes from Keith Price.
--And speaking of Price, the quarterback put on a strong showing, throwing roughly 50 passes and hitting on all but a few of those. Most notably, Price showed off his arm early hitting Kevin Smith, who put on a pretty good display himself, on a deep ball that covered roughly 65 yards. Price said one of his goals Wednesday was to show off his arm strength, something that has been questioned at times.
“I think people look at my frame, and lot of times I’m not going deep and testing my arm strength, but I can throw the ball,” he said. “I think I have a strong arm, I’m confident in myself and I’m confident in my abilities.”
Count Pete Carroll among those who isn’t overly concerned with Price’s arm strength.
“He threw the ball great,” the Seahawks coach said. “He threw it about 65 (yards), that’s far enough.”
Price admitted he was unhappy to be a combine snub, but said he’s using that as motivation going forward.
“I’m willing to do whatever it takes,” he said. “I have a chip on my shoulder, I’m hungry, and whatever team gets me, they’re going to get a steal.”
