Mariners pitcher James Paxton was been placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, a day after leaving his second start in the sixth inning with a strained left latissimus dorsi muscle. Lucas Luetge was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma to take Paxton’s spot on the roster.
Mariners manager said prior to the move being made that it was likely that Paxton would land on the DL, and that if that happened, Chris Young would start in his place, so look for that to happen on Sunday. Young, who was signed just before the start of the season to be Seattle’s fifth starter, had his spot in the rotation skipped thanks to last week’s rainout in Oakland, so he will be making his first start with the Mariners.
Paxton was off to a 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA to start this season after going 3-0 in four games late last year.
