Foltz’s two-run single leads Shorewood baseball past GP

SHORELINE — A two-out, two-run single by senior Avery Foltz in the bottom of the fourth inning gave Shorewood the lead and the T-Birds held on to beat Glacier Peak in a Wesco 3A South baseball matchup.

With runners on second and third, Foltz hit a line drive into centerfield to give Shorewood their first two runs of the game. Foltz later scored on a single by sophomore Harrison Jacobs to give the T-birds some insurance.

Senior Ben Tracey went the distance on the mound for Shorewood, allowing just five hits, striking out six and walking none. Tracey is now 3-0 on the season.

“Ben was oustanding today, I was very proud of him,” Shorewood head coach Wyatt Tonkin said of his starter. “He had a good curveball and his fastball was working. He didn’t walk anybody and we played good solid defense.”

The Grizzlies had runners on second and third with nobody out in the top of the fourth but were able to score only one run. After an RBI groundout gave Glacier Peak the lead, Tracey got out of the inning with a groundout followed by a strike out.

Foltz and Jacobs each finished with two hits for Shorewood. Senior Branson Barnecut batted 3-for-3 with a double to lead the Grizzlies.

“It was a fun game because it was well played on both sides and both teams had chances to win,” Tonkin said. “It’s what high school sports is all about.”
