Snohomish Lacrosse Club hosts all day homecoming event
The Snohomish Boys Lacrosse Homecoming and Family Fun Day kicks off at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Glacier Peak High School and is highlighted by the Snohomish varsity’s homecoming game against Bellingham at noon. All seven youth teams will be in action throughout the day as well, facing teams from Monroe, Everett and Stanwood.
“We get everybody in the same spot and we wanted to make it a celebration of sorts for the parents and players that are a part of this,” Snohomish Lacrosse Club’s boys program director Christopher Ames said. “The other good thing is that except for Bellingham coming down for the varsity game, it’s all other Snohomish County clubs.
By day’s end, nearly 300 youth lacrosse players in Snohomish County will have taken the field.
On most Saturday’s the eight teams that make up the Snohomish Lacrosse Club are playing in different locations, making it difficult on families who have multiple children playing in different age groups. Saturday’s event gives parents the opportunity to watch all of their children play at the same location.
“We are trying to make it a community outreach thing so people that are curious about the sport or have heard about it maybe can see what it’s like in person,” Ames said. “We’re hoping the other clubs kind of take that opportunity too.”
In addition to the games, food and vendors will be on hand and the Snohomish Boys Lacrosse Booster Club will be hosting giveaways and an information desk for the club and summer registration.
Admission to the event is free.
Snohomish’s boys high-school lacrosse team began play in 2002 and the girls started in 2004. The sport is not sanctioned by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, but the sport’s governing body, the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association, closely follows WIAA’s standards.
