SHORELINE — Marysville Getchell pitcher Rylan Faucett’s last strikeout may have been his biggest.
Holding a 5-4 lead with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Faucett earned his 10th strikeout of the game, ending the Shorecrest rally and giving the Chargers baseball team the victory Wednesday afternoon in a Wesco 3A crossover matchup.
“I have the ultimate confidence in him,” Marysville-Getchell head coach Gerry Klep said. “He kept falling behind batter but at that point it was his game to win or lose.”
Junior John Clark gave the Chargers the lead in the fifth inning with a solo home run. Clark finished 2-for-3 with a double, the home run and an RBI.
“He’s a big boy, a football player playing baseball,” Klep said of Clark. “The pitcher made a mistake on a fastball and (Clark) just rode it up over the right field fence.”
