Local political resignations and appointments

The past year has been unusually busy with political resignations and appointments — so busy that we decided a scorecard was needed. Here’s a rundown of selected officer-holders in Snohomish County who have quit, and who replaced them. In more than a few cases, an elected official was trading up to a more important role.

Snohomish Couny sheriff John Lovick 6/3/2013 Appointed Snohomish County executive. Ty Trenary 7/1/2013 Election for one-year term in 2014, full four-year term in 2015.
State Senate, 38th District Nick Harper 11/9/2013 Harper said he wanted to spend more time with his family. John McCoy 11/27/2013 Election for full four-year term in 2014.
State House, 38th District John McCoy 11/27/2013 Appointed to state Senate. June Robinson 12/16/2013 Election to regular two-year term in 2014.
State Senate, 21st District Paull Shin 1/7/2014 Alzheimer’s disease. Pending County Democrats have scheduled a Jan. 18 meeting for nominations. The County Council will decide after that. State Rep. Marko Liias, D-Mukilteo, is considered a frontrunner. Appointee would serve through the 2014 election.
Everett City Council, Position 3 Arlan Hatloe 12/31/2012 Retired. Scott Murphy 1/2/2013 Elected to four-year term in November 2013.
Everett City Council, Position 7 Shannon Affholter 10/31/2013 Hired to lead the Master Builders Association. Rich Anderson 11/13/2013 Election for one-year term in 2014, full four-year term in 2015.
Everett School Board, Position 4 Jessica Olson 1/7/2014 Olson said school board terms should be four years and not six. Pending Application process open through Jan. 23. Successor to be named Feb. 3. Appointee will serve two years to finish term. Election for full six-year term in 2015.
Everett School Board, at-large Position 3 Jeff Russell 12/1/2013 Russell said he needed respite to restore personal and professional balance in his life. Caroline Mason 1/9/2014 Mason will serve two years to finish term. Election for full six-year term in 2015.
Marysville City Council, Position 7 Carmen Rasmussen 12/31/2012 Moved outside city. Kamille Norton 2/25/2013 Won the Nov. 5, 2013 election to retain the seat for two remaining years of term.
Mukilteo City Council, Position 7 Jennifer Gregerson Early 2014 Elected mayor of Mukilteo on Nov. 5. Pending 1/13/2014 Appointee will serve two remaining years. Election to full four-year term in 2015.
Edmonds City Council, Position 6 Frank Yamamoto 12/31/2013 Health issues. Pending Candidate interviews scheduled Jan. 28. Appointment possible on Feb. 4. Appointee will serve two remaining years of term. Election to a full four-year term in 2015.
Stanwood City Council, Position 6 Roger Haskin 12/31/2012 Other commitments. Conrad Ryer 2/14/2013 Elected to two-year unexpired term on Nov. 5, 2013.
Fire District 1 Commission, Position 1 Millie Judge 12/31/2012 Elected Snohomish County Superior Court judge. Karen Dingmon 2/19/2013 Dingmon lost to Jim McGaughey in the Nov. 5 general election. She ran for a different commissioner’s seat than the one to which she was appointed.
Marysville School Board, District 2 Cindy Rebain (Erickson) 9/1/2013 Moved outside district. Mariana Maksimos 12/9/2013 Term expires at the end of 2015.
Granite Falls School Board, Position 2 Rebecca Loney 12/4/2013 Not stated. Pending Final candidate interviews scheduled Jan. 22 Appointee will serve through the 2015 elections.
Granite Falls School Board, Position 3 Siobhan Sullivan June 2013 Not stated. Pending Final candidate interviews scheduled Jan. 22 Appointee will serve through the 2015 elections.
