In a rather surprising piece of news, the Seahawks have acquired quarterback Terrelle Pryor in a trade with Oakland.
The Seahawks sent their seventh-round pick, pick No. 247, to the Raiders, who were expected to cut Pryor if they couldn’t trade him. That pick is the last tradeable pick in the draft (compensatory picks aren’t tradeable) so clearly there wasn’t a ton of interest in Pryor.
Pryor is set to make $705,000 in base salary in 2014, the final year of his rookie contract, but that is non-guaranteed money. A third-round pick in the 2011 supplemental draft,
Pryor appeared in 11 games, completing 156 of 272 attempts for 1,798 yards, seven touchdowns and 11 interceptions last season.
At 6-foot-4, Pryor is an exceptional athlete and there has been talk in the past of teams trying him at other positions, perhaps receiver. And with the Seahawk re-signing Tarvaris Jackson this offseason, Seattle’s backup job seems to be his, so perhaps John Schneider and Pete Carroll want to take a look at Pryor as a low-risk, potentially high-reward athlete.
“Terrelle is an incredibly explosive athlete and we’re excited for him to come in and compete,” Schneider said in press release.
Also, according to ProFootballTalk.com, which first reported the trade, the 49ers were also interested in Pryor, because, well, of course they were.
