EVENTS

First Responders Family Night: All Oso mudslide first responders and their families are welcome to attend a free event, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 25 at Imagine Children’s Museum, 1502 Wall St., Everett. The free evening also is sponsored by the Children’s Museum of Skagit County. More information is at 425-258-1006.

Hibulb Powwow: Everett Community College hosts its 22nd annual Hibulb Powwow, “Keeping the Traditions Alive,” on May 10 at the Student Fitness Center, 2206 Tower St., Everett. The powwow features traditional American Indian dancing, drumming, singing, arts and crafts. Grand entries are at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. The powwow is free and open to the public. The event also features a kids’ corner for crafts, a tiny tots dance, a raffle and vendors offering arts, crafts and concessions.

National Train Day: Swamp Creek &Western Railroad Association of Edmonds hosts an open house 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 10 at the Edmonds Amtrak Depot baggage room, 210 Railroad St. Model trains will operate across a layout that features 400 feet of HO scale track that passes through miniature towns and detailed scenery as it follows an actual surveyed route over White Pass. The event is free. Parents must accompany children.

Everett Rock &Gem Club: The nonprofit educational and recreational group for rockhounds celebrates its 75th anniversary during its 2014 Gem, Jewelry and Mineral Show, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 3 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 4 at the Everett Community College Fitness Center, 2206 Tower St., Everett. Admission is free. See exhibits of crystals, minerals, beads, pearls, fossils, exotic shells, polished decorative stone artwork and handcrafted silver jewelry. Lapidary artists will demonstrate gemstone faceting, intarsia, wire wrapping, silversmithing, and stone shaping and polishing techniques. Maps of collecting and digging sites in the state will be available. Activity area for youth under age 18, and every kid gets a free polished rock. THEATER

Sesame Street Live: The show “Make a New Friend” is 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. May 2; 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. May 3; and 1 and 4:30 p.m. May 4 at Comcast Arena, Hewitt and Broadway, Everett. Elmo, Grover, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby and their Sesame Street friends welcome Chamki, Grover’s friend from India, to Sesame Street. Together, they explore the universal fun of friendship and celebrate cultural similarities. Sesame Street Live productions feature timeless tunes and lessons for all ages. “Splat the Cat”: The Village Theatre Pied Piper series presents the musical at 2 p.m. May 4 at the Everett Civic Auditorium, 2415 Colby Ave., with a special sensory friendly performance at 4 p.m. that day sponsored by the Nysether Family Foundation. For tickets, call 425-257-8600.

“Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr.”: The Whidbey Children’s Theater features island children in the fifth through 10th grades; 7:30 p.m. April 25 and 26 and 2 p.m. April 27; Whidbey Children’s Theater, 723 Camano Ave. Langley, next to Langley Middle School. “Snow White”: Studio East and StoryBook Theater present the fairy tale for families with children ages 3 to 10; 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. May 11, PUD auditorium, 2320 Calif. St. Tickets are $10 for all but infants and can be purchased at www.storybooktheater.org.

Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater: “The Cyndi Soup Show,” including puppet pals Gus Puppy and Rustle Crow, offers lots of music, sing-alongs and stories, 10 a.m. April 25 and 26. “Dinosaurs: A Journey Through Time”: Explore the Mesozoic Era (248 million to 65 million years ago) through eight robotic dinosaurs that move and roar. Western Heritage Center: An interactive museum of mining, logging, agriculture, transportation, construction and wildlife.
