EvCC Foundation raises $71K for aid

The Everett Community College Foundation raised more than $71,000 at a community breakfast this week to help provide scholarships, emergency loans and grants to its students.
This year’s donations increased by $4,865 over the $66,310 raised last year for a final total of $71,175.
This is the fourth year the fundraising event has been scheduled.
Donations from the event go to general support for the foundation, which can provide money to specific campus programs, a student emergency fund and scholarship fund if they so choose, said John Olson, the foundation’s executive director.
Money in the emergency fund can be used to help ensure students stay in college and are successful, such as paying for a gas card to get them to school, said Katherine Schiffner, college spokeswoman.
The annual breakfast was attended by about 400 people. “I think it was a great show of support from community members and employees,” Olson said.
The college, which has 19,530 full- and part-time students, offers 67 degree and certificate programs.
